Overview of Market Harborough
Small enough to easily get around in a day, and boasting tons of character and history, Market Harborough was developed as a market town by Henry II, around 1170. It is now the administrative headquarters of the Harborough District and is on the border of both Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. The historic core of Market Harborough lies within Leicestershire, with the meandering River Welland slicing through the middle, with the south of the river lying in Northamptonshire.

It’s not hard to see why as Market Harborough is a charming, bustling town full of history, culture, places to eat and drink, and independent retailers.
One of the town’s big positives is its location. It has excellent road and rail links which means that the likes of Leicester, Nottingham, Northampton, and even London are in easy reach. Travelling by train, you can be in Leicester in just 15 minutes, Nottingham in around 50 minutes, whilst London St Pancras is only an hour away. This makes Market Harborough an extremely desirable place for commuters to live in – excellent access to larger cities and towns, but from a traditional, bustling, attractive market town environment. As for road links, Leicester is only 15 miles away via the A6, whilst Northampton is around 17 miles south via the A508, with Market Harborough just 11 miles away from the M1 motorway.
The centre of town features an array of stunning Georgian architecture and hosts any number of interesting independent retailers, a strong coffee shop-café culture, a buzzing market (that was voted Britain’s Best Small Indoor Market in 2016), and the more modern, pedestrianised St Mary's Place that was built in 1993. The 14th Century ironstone church rises proudly and dominates the centre of Market Harborough, and stands alongside the town's old Grammar School, a stunning half-timbered/gabled building which is supported above the street on wooden pillars.
